Yanek Revilla Romero
Yanek Revilla was born in Santiago de Cuba where he started his dancing career in the dance company Luces de América in 1998. He also worked as a salsa instructor in the Casa de la Cultura in Santiago de Cuba. In 2002 Yanek started to work as a director, dancer and choreographer in the dance company Casino.Com. The group won many prizes in Cuba and Yanek was invited to dance and teach in many countries worldwide. Today Salseros DKY is the latest dance group Yanek coaches, of which the members are the next generation of the finest Cuban dancers.
In 2004 Yenek Revilla won the world championship of salsa in Italy and a number of times the salsa championship of “Bailar Casino” (a Cuban national television program) in the categories of best Cuban casino dancer and best Rueda de casino group. The same popular TV program nominated Revilla’s dance group as the best Rueda de Casino performance of Cuba again the following year. After that Yanek has given workshops and performed in European salsa festivals remaining to live in Cuba, where his inspiration to create new Salsa Cubana moves keeps going strong.
Yanek’s intention to promote the Salsa Cubana dance style (and other Afro-Cuban dances), is not necessarily only the technical aspects of dancing, but primarily the feeling of dancing the Salsa Cubana in all its splendor. Many dancers enjoy the challenge of the many complex dance moves at the top of the Salsa Cubana, but often forget truly enjoying the dance and the interaction with a partner.
As with all dances still close to the African styles, Salsa Cubana is about more than technical excellence - it is a way of expressing genuine emotions...
